How to Reach

The Blackbuck Lodge is situated in the environs of the Velavadar National Park, which is located just off the excellent Ahmedabad-Bhavnagar Highway.

By Air

Bhavnagar is the nearest airport to The Blackbuck Lodge. It receives daily flights from Mumbai. From the Bhavnagar Airport, it is a drive of about 65km to the Blackbuck Lodge which takes approximately one-and-a-half hours depending on traffic conditions. The coastal road from Bhavnagar to Adhelui, where there is a right turn for the Velavadar National Park, is picturesque offering good opportunities to view waders and even see flocks of flamingos, cranes, storks, pelicans, ibises and other large birds. On the 10km road from Adhelui to Blackbuck Lodge, you can spot a variety of mammals, birds and reptiles.

The Sardar Vallabhai Patel International Airport at Ahmedabad, about 150km from Velavadar National Park, is well-connected by flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune and other major cities of India as well as some international destinations. From the airport, the drive to Blackbuck Lodge takes approximately 3 hours depending on traffic conditions. The highway passes some good birding areas, including wetlands and fields (keep your binoculars and cameras handy), and colourful pastoral communities with herds of camels, sheep, goats and other livestock are often seen on the journey.

By Rail

Bhavnagar Railway Station, about 55km from Velavadar National Park, is well-connected by rail to cities like Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad.

For those coming from other cities, Ahmedabad’s railway station, about 150km from Velavadar National Park, is well-connected to most state capitals and major cities of India.

By Road

Gujarat has some excellent highways and the journeys to Velavadar National Park offer good opportunities for watching birds and photographing rural or pastoral life.

If you are coming from Ahmedabad, drive to Bavla and Bagodra, and follow the road past Fadra, Pipli and Dholera to Adhelui, where there is a right turn for the Velavadar National Park.

From Surat or Vadodara, take the road via Tarapur to Dholera, and then travel to Adhelui, where there is a right turn for the Velavadar National Park.

From Bhavnagar, take the coastal road north to Adhelui, where there is a right turn for the Velavadar National Park. If you are coming from Palitana, take the highway to Valabhipur and turn left for Velavadar National Park.

Those coming from Porbandar, Rajkot or Gondal can take the road past Jasdan and Gadhadha to Velavadar National Park.

From Gir Wildlife Sanctuary or Junagadh, take the road via Visavadar, Bagasara and Amreli Bypass to Vallabhipur from where you continue to Velavadar National Park.

If coming from Dasada/Zainabad/Bajana (near the Little Rann of Kutch/Wild Ass Sanctuary) drive to Bagodra and then follow the road past Fadra, Pipli, Dholera and Adhelui, where there is a right turn for the Velavadar National Park. Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary can be visited on this road.

From Kutch district, take the road to Halwad, Dhrangadhra, Surendrnagar and Limbdi, from where you can continue to Velavadar National Park.

If you are coming from Rajasthan, come to Ahmedabad and then follow the road to Bagodra, Fadra, Dholera and Adhelui, where you turn for Velavadar National Park. From Madhya Pradesh, come via Vadodara or Ahmedabad following respective directions to Velavadar National Park.
